Madhes is burning

Federalizing Nepal under the ethnic line is not the panacea for extirpation of feudal system but a hypnotist’s dream of cozy mattress while sleeping under the death bed of burning fire.

Decentralization of Nepal should entirely be based upon geography. Having said that, there is no need to act like microwaved pop corn when someone speaks Hindi language, while swearing in as vice president of whole country. Speaking lingua franca of Madhes could come as comfort to the people who had long been treated as second-class citizens, stereotyped as “khhali bottle, purano kagaz”.

We should realize that trying to remold those people would not only homogenize the whole country but also make those remolds disconnected from this Nepali soil. They would as a result soul search their identity and it would then not matter even if they cross geographic line. Geographic demarcation is less painful than the cultural alienation.

When the vice president sworn in Hindi language, my face resembled that of Janus, one face unhappy that he ignored the very constitution of which he was the pundit and other face happy that he attempted to create a feeling of belongingness among those who have so long been denied a Nepali identity.

What do our “typical nationalists” do besides killing anyone who they think is hindrance to their motives? Our leaders need to realize that Mahesworic path might always not lead to the solution. Let’s see if there is any Bishnu out there who can accept their children even if they speak different language, even if they wear different clothes, even if they resemble arch-rival countries in terms of culture.

Try to be compassionate to the people who had long been yearning for recognition at the national level. Otherwise, your hubris will lead u to the fate of Icarus.
